According to
Countryaah website, Kosovo has a total of around 1.8 million residents, of which around
91% were Albanians, 4% Serbs and 5% others.

Ethnic composition

Religious affiliation
Mostly Muslims live in Kosovo, but there are also Christians and
Orthodox.

Kosovo: geography
General
Kosovo is a country on the Balkan Peninsula in south-eastern Europe. But the
status as a separate state is controversial under international law. On February
17, 2008, the parliament in Pristina proclaimed the country's independence from
Serbia. But only 66 of the 192 UN member states recognize Kosovo as a separate
state. And Serbia continues to regard Kosovo as its Autonomous Province.
Kosovo is a landlocked country and therefore has no coast to the sea.
Area and land use
Kosovo covers a total area of 10,887 km2.
Thereof:
- Forest
Around 446 km² of the country is forested area.
- Fields and fields
Around 200 km² of the country are used as arable land or fields, especially
for growing maize, wheat and barley, potatoes, plums, grapes and tobacco.
- Mountains
About 53% of the area of Kosovo is covered with mountains. In the
southwest is the ridge of the Sar-Planina Mountains, which are up to 2,750 m
high. The Pashtrik Mountains are located in the west on the border with
Albania, where the Albanian Alps are also located.

Time
In Kosovo, Central European Time (CET) applies without summer time, i.e. the
same time as in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The highest point of the sun in Pristina
Pristina lies at a northern latitude of around φ = 42.5 °.
As long as the sun is at the tropic, i.e. at δ = 23.5 °, it is the beginning of
summer in Prishtina, this is June 21. Then, for the highest position of the sun
at noon, according to Eq. 1 (see position of the sun):

At 71 °, the sun in Prishtina has the highest level of the entire year above
the horizon (more precisely: above the horizon).
Mountains
Gjeravica
The highest mountain in the country is Gjeravica with a height of 2,656 m.
Other high mountains are:
- Bistra with a height of 2,640 m
- Marjash with a height of 2,530 m
- Luboteni with a height of 2,496 m
- Koproniku with a height of 2,460 m
Rivers
Drini i Bardhe
The longest river in the country is the Drini i Bardhe with a length of around
122 km.
Other rivers in the country are:
- Sitnica with a length of around 90 km
- Lumbardhi i Pejes with a length of around 62 km
- Morava e Binqes with a length of around 60 km
- Lepenci with a length of around 53 km
Lakes
Gazivode
The country includes numerous smaller and larger lakes. The largest
lake is the Gazivode with an area of about 9.1 km².
Other larger lakes are:
- Batllave with an area of around 3.27 km²
- Badovc with an area of around 2.57 km²
- Radoniq with an area of around 5.96 km²
